TERMINOLOGY AND STORAGE STANDARDS

Much of the testing and terminology used throughout the remainder of this article is focused on storage devices, and how they perform when put under different situations. If you are looking to learn more about storage, mainly flash storage, then we encourage you to head over to our big-sister site, The SSD Review, and take a look at our ‘Learning To Run With Flash’ series.

ADATA HD720 SPECIFICATIONS

This shock proof external drive is equipped with IP68 qualifications, which means that it can work in a dusty environment and/or after being submerged in 2 meters of water for up to 120 minutes. It has also passed the 1.8 meter drop test, which is greater than the standard military-rade requirement (MIL-STD-810G 516.6).

The strategy behind this is three layers of protection. While you can see from the images below, the drive has an exterior silicone layer, which wraps around a paclstic structure. Unfortunately, we couldn’t break on into the interior without completely destroying the plastic shock structure.

ADATA HD720 7

The ADATA HD720 is available in three different colors, black, yellow and blue, with capacities ranging from 500GB to 2TB. The HD720 is equipped with SuperSpeed USB 3.9 and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. We already know we are looking at a hard disk drive, so we are not expecting jaw-dropping SSD speeds, like you would see with the ADATA DashDrive Elite SE720. This drive is bluntly oriented for those who require an external storage solution that can be thrown in the mud. With the HD720, you’ll also get three years of warranty as well.

Held within the simple packaging, you will find the ADATA HD720, with it’s USB 3.0 cable tucked into its resting, wrap-around exterior groove, as well as the quick start guide.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

Head on over to Amazon and you will see that the 500 GB version of the HD720 will put you back $59.99, the 1 TB is only $10 more at $69.99, and the 2TB version would cost $119.99. This means you are looking at roughly $0.06 per gigabyte, not a bad deal!

  1. I have achieved an ADATA HD 720-1T USB disk. I use it with an ASUS laptop as an external bootable disk for Linux (I have windows 8.1 installed on my SSD laptop drive). On the ADATA drive I have 3 different Linux distros installed. It work just fine (thanks to USB 3.0). Great product..
