Dog & Bone’s LockSmart Mini Lock Review – Futuristic!

It’s a beautiful summer day and all you want to do is go out for a bike ride. You go out to your shack where your bike is locked up when all of a sudden you realize you have lost your keys. Maybe you locked your gym clothes in the provided lockers, but during your session you dropped your keys and need to get inside. These are both predicaments we can all relate to in one way or another. Locks are a great tool for everyday life, but the need to carry around a key to operate it can turn into a large issue very quickly. Fortunately, Dog & Bone has created such a lock that, for $60, doesn’t require any sort of key, just your bluetooth smart phone.

PACKAGING & DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS

Dog & Bone’s LockSmart Mini comes in a strongly red coloured book-style box with bold white embossing on the front. The front of the box opens to better display the lock contained inside, while also pointing out the design features of the device. The rear of the box goes into deep detail about all of the powerful capabilities of the lock from the ability to share the lock with multiple users, battery life, and weatherproofing just to name a few. Inside the box you will find the lock, an app download card, and a micro USB cable to keep the lock charged up.

The lock itself looks like a regular ordinary lock, so no confusion there. On the bottom you will find a rubber pad that covers the power button and the micro USB plugin keeping them safe from the weather. The main body of the lock is also covered in a scratch resistant, rubber coating. The lock utilizes a 7mm hardened shackle providing excellent strength against bolt cutters.

We have had the pleasure of holding onto this lock for 9 months to rigorously test its battery life as well as it’s weatherproofing. For that entire time we left the lock in our freezer to really see if it can hold up to our tough Canadian winters. With just recently taking the lock out of the freezer and function testing it, we can wholeheartedly say this lock has what it takes. After 9 months in the freezer without any care or maintenance, the Dog & Bone LockSmart Mini retained 70% battery life and opened on the first try.
