MSI GTX 760 Twin Frozr IV Gaming OC Edition (2GB) Review – Dual SLI Rules

MSI GTX 760 2GB TWIN FROZR IV GAMING OC EDITION – COOLING

Cooling has been a non-issue throughout testing. During actual use, we almost never saw either card reaching above 60°C. When we tested with FurMark we found the card that we ended up pulling apart ran at a consistent max temperature of 82°C after 15 minutes of FurMark running. The secondary card had a maximum temperature of 63°C. These temperatures are quite acceptable; it’s in the 95°C+ range that problems usually arise.

The cooling on these cards was so effective that even after having stayed at maximum temperature for some time, they go back to idle temperatures within moments. We measured a 20°C drop in GPU temperature in less than 6 seconds. Using the MSI Gaming App’s built in cooldown function is unnecessary, it just cools that well by default. That means that if you’re looking for a card to overclock, this one should be a serious candidate.

REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS

What do these tests tell us about these MSI GTX 760 2GB Twin Frozr OC Edition graphics cards?

For one, that they make for a great stand-alone card for most gamers. Unless you want to run at max settings no matter what the game, or spend hours combing the internet for the most top-notch graphics mods, one of these cards would be a good investment for most PC Gamers. It’s capable of playing all of the games we tested, even the heavily modified Skyrim, at least acceptably at maximum graphics settings.

This series of tests also tells us a lot about how effective SLI is in general, and how effective 3DMark is for testing actual real-world performance. The performance gains displayed by 3DMark when going to SLI mode are exactly in line with the performance gains actually achieved in games under SLI. Achieving a consistent 50-90% improvement in performance across the board is very useful, the only shame is that there are a few games that don’t support SLI.

All of our testing bears this out over and over again; benchmarking or measuring in-game performance, two cards solidly beats one every time. A 2xSLI MSI GTX 760 2GB Twin Frozr IV Gaming OC Edition setup is a very capable and cost effective graphics solution. To beat this level of performance with a single card requires significantly more investment.

In short, if you’re a gamer that demands the best performance without a prohibitive cost, the MSI GTX 760 2GB Twin Frozr IV Gaming OC Edition in a 2x SLI configuration is hands down a good way to go. Realistically, a single MSI GTX 760 2GB Twin Frozr IV Gaming OC Edition graphics card is still a good graphics solution for most of us.
