Epic Gear Morpha X Modular Gaming Mouse Review

Modifications

The calling for the Morpha X is it’s ability to be modified and swap out parts. The manual gives you a decently detailed visual instruction of how to modify the mouse, we will walk and talk through our modification.

First step to any modification of the Morpha X is to remove the logo shell. From the “epicgear” logo simply lift upwards on the shell and the four magnets holding it in place will release and now you’ll have an open exposure and your first look at the weight management system. Each weight is 5 grams giving you 20 grams of play.

If you do take some weight out though you’ll have to find a home for it as there is no dedicated spot in the foam casing for unused weight. Not a big deal but something to note for future packaging.

From this point you can carry on to removing the button shell or to remove the sensor. To remove the sensor simply pull on the underside lip and it will release. The Morpha X comes with two sensors; an optical sensor registering up to 12000 DPI and a Laser sensor running up to 8200.

We stuck with the laser sensor for a couple of reasons. First being laser sensors work on any surface where optical mice don’t work well on glossy surfaces and secondly, we have never needed to go anywhere near beyond 8200 DPI so the laser was our choice.

Back to the top side you can remove the button cover by removing the top 5 gram weight and popping up on the notch. You’ll now see the exposed button switches these are removed using the orange included pick tool. It is identical and doubles as a key remover for your keyboard.

The switch remover tool works but we were very careful and hesitant as you have to work it on slowly and gently remove it. We installed one of each switch so we could test and see if we could feel a difference in the actuation pressure. We will see how that pans out later on.As you can see the tool isn’t a perfect fit but that is necessary for the removal when it does clip.

That’s it for the dissection of the Morpha X, to reassemble just read this page from bottom to top.

By now you'd think we had seen it all when it came to gaming peripherals. What more could you possibly do to change the game, well Epic Gear has done just that in releasing the Morpha X. A modular, yes you heard correctly, modular gaming mouse. With swappable components and shells, customizing your mouse is no longer specifically a software option. Packaging, Contents, and Pricing We already know that the Morpha X is different, it's a new trend and setting a new process into the development of gaming peripherals. With that they have stepped up the packaging game as well. As…
