SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive (64 GB) – Testing Driving Wireless Media Transfer

CONCLUSIONS

The SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive has battery life that was surprisingly good. You’ll have no problem streaming a couple movies or a half dozen episodes of your favourite show, back to back. The actual device you’re watching from will generally lose power well before the SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive. I tested with a DVD rip of Dark City: The Director’s Cut on repeat to see how long the battery would last. The result was rather impressive, considering the size of the device; it lasted a few minutes shy of 9 hours. Results will vary if you stream 720p video.

Few mobile devices have the codecs and/or hardware performance required for universal playback, though, and this device does not decode media itself. So you’ll be left having to convert video to a file type your device can use. For example, the Google Nexus S cannot play anything with Dolby DTS audio, and several video codecs are missing. Overall, that’s not that big of a deal. Video conversions can be done in batches overnight with a variety of programs.

It increases the effective storage space on any modern wireless device and makes browsing your media files a snap.
