ASUS Strix GTX 970 OC Review – Silent But Deadly

REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS

In my time with this card I have been wowed time and time again. When I’d first heard about Maxwell and it’s efficiency improvements, I shrugged it off and thought “How much more efficient could it be than Kepler” and “Why isn’t nVidia focusing on performance!” – Well, to answer both of those questions: It is a lot more efficient and they did focus on performance. But they did so in a way that made sense. Instead of creating a power-hungry beast like AMD’s 290 and 290x, nVidia has managed to deliver performance on par with those cards at a mere 145W TDP.

Maxwell is more than just efficient on power draw, it’s more efficient on your wallet.ASUS Strix GTX 970 Front Angle 2

What’s more, if you consider that the GTX 970 launches at a price that is $300 cheaper than the GTX 780 launched at in 2013, while delivering equal or better performance. Compared to Kepler, Maxwell is more than just efficient on power draw, it’s more efficient on your wallet.

…anyone in the market for a high-end graphics card should definitely seriously consider this card.

The GTX 970 and more specifically the ASUS Strix GTX 970 is easily the best bang for your buck graphics card on the market right now that does not cut any corners. It delivers awesome build quality, superior cooling performance and amazing gaming performance for your money. Anyone in the market for a high-end graphics card should definitely seriously consider this card.

Now, if you’ll excuse me.. I’m gonna go play some games.

When nVidia announced their 10th generation Maxwell architecture it was hotly anticipated and back in February we got to see the first GPUs based on it: the GM107 based 750 and 750 Ti. While those products offered much in terms of power efficiency, they were but a taste of what was to come. After months of waiting and delays, nVidia has finally released the first of its GTX 900 series based on the GM204 GPU core. – and today we have the pleasure of reviewing the ASUS Strix GTX 970 OC. We’ll start with an overview of the GPU and…

  1. Nice review.

It was kind of scary for me though, we basically have the same rig. ASRock x79 Extreme4, i7 3820 @ 4.4GHz, Corsair TX850v2, GTX 670 FTW (Strix is in the mail), Samsung 840 250gb OS drive…. I thought maybe you were me from the future, writing a review for my past self.

    ARE YOU A WIZARD?
