Mushkin Redline DDR4-2666 Memory Review

BENCHMARKS

MEMORY BANDWIDTH

For bench-marking memory bandwidth we use AIDA64’s ‘Cache and Memory Benchmark

Here we can see a steady increase in bandwidth just by lowering the timings on our 2666MHz configuration. Performance here is definitely inline with other kits we’ve tested at these memory speeds.

MEMORY LATENCY

For bench-marking memory latency we use AIDA64’s ‘Cache and Memory Benchmark’

Once again, we see quite a bit of improvement in our 2666MHz configuration over the stock. 60.8 nanoseconds, compared to 62.2. We were hoping that our 2133MHz configuration would fair a bit better with its much lower timings, but it is still outdone by the higher-speed configurations.

CINEBENCH R15

Maxon’s Cinebench is a benchmarking tool based on their Cinema 4D software. It measures CPU performance by rendering a photo realistic 3D scene.

As we can see it seems our lowest speed, lowest timing configuration is able to match the performance of our highest speed configuration with higher timings. Interesting, this shows that if you’re primary goal is 3D rendering, then you’ll want to get the lowest timings possible if you can’t get higher speeds.

WINRAR

WinRAR is easily the most well-known file archiving program. In our test we use the application’s built-in benchmark utility in order to determine memory performance.

WinRAR always seems to be the odd man out in our tests. While all the configurations perform inline with other kits we’ve tested, our middle of the road 2400MHz configuration seems to perform the best here. This could be due to its balance of speed and lower timings.

7-ZIP

7-Zip is an open-source, completely free file archiving application which utilizes LZMA2 compression. We use their built-in bench-marking utility to measure our systems performance when decompressing files.

7-Zip on the other hand, is a completely different animal. It seems to favor higher speed, although we haven’t used it in our past memory tests, so we can’t be sure if the above results are the same or similar to other memory kits.

Mushkin has become one of the better known brands in desktop memory by bringing their customers top quality, performance and low prices. Sure, if you've never built your own computer, you've probably never heard of them, but the same could be said about any number of component manufacturers. That being said, if you have heard of them, odds are it has been good things. That is why we're excited to bring you a review of the latest in their lineup of consumer memory, the Mushkin Redline DDR4-2666 quad-channel memory kit.
