NZXT S340 Mid Tower Chassis Review – Best Case under $70?

Today we have privilege of looking at the NZXT S340 case, which while the original Phantom cases were less then impressive, we were looking to the S340 to make a bold statement. The S340 is a case that wants to make a statement about what you can get in a value case.

NZXT has recently been making a strong push into the case market, against the likes of Corsair, Cooler Master and Fractal, with its recent H440 they have taken a strong hold in the chassis market. As system builders we have a lot of experience in what to look for in a case at this price point. NZXT is going for a smaller full ATX chassis with the aim of users looking to use AIO coolers as some of the larger aftermarket CPU Coolers will not fit inside this chassis.

 SPECIFICATIONS, PRICING, AND AVAILABILITY

The S340 is a mid-tower chassis available in black or white, with a windowed side panel available for $69.99 for both the white and black models.

The S340 has quite a few options for water cooling allowing up to a dual 140mm front radiator and one rear 120mm as well as two 3.5 inch drive bays, and two 2.5 inch drive slots for SSDs which sit on top of the upper chamber of the case. Unfortunately there is no 5.25 inch drive bays in this case so those looking to use optical drives or fan controllers should look elsewhere.

The case has support for a 140mm fan on the top of the case as well as a rear 120mm and dual 140mm fans in the front.

PACKAGING

The NZXT S340 is shown with a sturdy printed cardboard, in white on one side and black on the other showing off both color combinations. This surely is to show off the product in the crowded retail space.

As we remove the case we see a plastic liner used to keep the case from being scratched, as well as thick, hard foam inserts to keep it protected during shipping. We do strongly prefer closed-cell foam instead, but since this is a budget case it’s something we can forgive.

Our case did come in perfect condition, though shipping a complete system inside the original packaging is something we would recommend against.

Included with the case is a box with NZXT’s branding that holds all of the hardware and each of the bags have their contents listed this is something we definitely approve of and is a nice touch.
