Zalman ZM-K650 Waterproof Keyboard Review

FEATURES & PERFORMANCE

The K650 is named as a gaming keyboard which is a bit of a stretch for us as there seems to be no downloadable software for the board allowing us macro’s. However it is a keyboard and can be used for games so there you have it “gaming keyboard”. With gaming comes ghosting though and the majority of boards out there now support N-rollover basically eliminating the issue of roll-over with the individual scanning of each key. the claim of up to 26 key roll over is a exaggeration and we couldn’t find one combination to get us past seven keys. This here will be a major issue for anyone that games pretty hard.

The K650 is a waterproof keyboard. This is where the keyboard earns it’s stripes and in our mind finds its place. Given we completely submerged this keyboard and it continued to type made us happy. The K650 is build with a plunger style key press which allows complete sealing of the board. DSC01987_FotorNow, most of you are saying when will i ever submerge my keyboard? Well you won’t but at the budget price of this board it will earn it’s spot in schools, libraries and other public computer areas where you may have to deal with spills and such that happens when people are using devices that they don’t own and have less care for. In that scenario you can always take it out back and clean it off with the hose. Wait… hmmmmm

Yep, you can clean it with a hose.

The K650 gives you a tactile clicking sound which we appreciate when it comes to keyboards, makes you hear that sound of work getting done. However after using a mechanical keyboards and mainly testing them out over the past while, you definitely feel the extra strain on the fingers after extended use. Where as the mech. keyboards have lighter actuation and less general effort it takes a little more on this. But for day to day use is nothing to complain about.

FINAL THOUGHTS & ANALYSIS

Overall we liked the ZM-K650WP, its waterproof feature is it’s most desirable feature as it makes this keyboard an easy choice for public pc’s that don’t get the same TLC as your home rig.Zalman ZM-K650WPThe 26 key rollover is a bit of a stretch for us as we only got to around 7 if we were lucky. However for $29.99 this isn’t a bad day-to-day keyboard. We just wouldn’t put it under the gaming category as it doesn’t really have any of the features a gamer would look for in a keyboard. As a day-to-day though this keyboard is a great choice especially for the public use sector or for those of you with children who like to spill drinks and food all over the place. The ZM-K650WP will claim our Bronze seal today.
