Graphics Cards – Making The Step Up From Integrated Graphics

COMPARING INTEGRATED TO DISCRETE GRAPHICS

Realistically, as the sub-title above indicates we are comparing integrated graphics to discrete graphics, and as we inch closer to our report analysis, you will begin to notice that this comparison is similar to that of comparing apples to oranges. Let’s take the results achieved using integrated graphics, and compare them with that of discrete graphics (i.e., graphics card).

CLOUD GATE

The comparison of Futuremark 3D Mark Cloud Gate is quite simple, we have taken the overall score achieved through the benchmark test and compared it across three different graphical configurations; integrated graphics, discrete graphics and multi-gpu graphics.

Graphs-1

What is amazing here is the significant increase from our integrated graphics result to the discrete graphics. Discrete graphics return a result that is almost 11 times that of integrated graphics, and our multi-gpu setup is almost 15 times greater.

ICE STORM

Ice Storm really brings out some true colours, and larger numbers, for us to visualize. In this scenario we are again using the total score achieved by the graphical configuration, which allows us to accurately see it’s performance.

Graphs-2

Our comparison here shows us that the discrete graphics exceeds integrated graphics by 7 times, and our multi-gpu configuration exceeds it by 8 times. The visualization here is pretty dramatic and showcases the significant increase in graphical performance from discrete graphics.

UNIGINE

Unigine’s test results were pretty shocking from integrated graphics, we will continue to showcase our visualizations by using the total score achieved by each test.

VALLEY

Graphs-3

As we can see from the above, discrete graphics exceeds the score of integrated graphics score by a whopping 26 times, and our multi-gpu configuration exceeds the integrated graphics score by 23 times.

HEAVEN

Graphs-4

The results of our Heaven benchmark showcases similar results to that of Valley, as our discrete graphics exceeds integrated graphics by just shy of  21 times and our multi-gpu configuration exceeds integrated graphics by an incredible 28 times.
