Having a mobile device with a dead battery is a simple fear we can all share. Now what do you do when you forgot your charging block and you don’t have any open USB ports on your workstation computer? Where that’s where Ventev’s USB Charging Hub 400 comes into play. With its four USB ports and its own 5 foot power cable this tabletop tool is one handy tool we can all appreciate.
PACKAGING & DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS
Ventev’s USB Charging Hub 400 comes in a nice charcoal grey box with orange highlights giving us a description of the hub on the rear. The contents are reasonably light only containing the hub itself and a tiny user manual. Simple and easy.
The charging hub plugs into any 2 prong outlet with its attached 5ft power cable.
With the hub’s small dimensions of only 9.5cm x 5.5cm x 2.5cm this handy device can easily fit on even the most cluttered of work stations.
The front face contains the 4 USB charging outlets with the left one being the dedicated 2.4A (12W) port and the next 3 being the shared 3A (15W) ports.
There are no LED’s located on the hub so the user has to check their device to know if it’s actually charging as there is no way of telling the user of the device’s current charging status.
The 2.4A (12W) dedicated port automatically detects the charge needs of the plugged in device and then charges it at its maximum possible rate. Testing this with our phones showed us that it charges just as fast as their supplied power block indicating it knows just how to quickly charge up your devices without unnecessarily straining their battery.
The other 3 ports share their total allotted 3A (15W) among themselves. This means that not every device will be able to charge at its maximum speed since it will have to share with the other 2 ports, obviously excluding the first dedicated port. We never had any issues with this feature though as the charging of our devices didn’t really slow down, roughly 10%-20% of their fastest time. We can’t really imagine any dire need a user may have where they need two devices charged immediately as fast as possible so this tiny slowdown is nothing more than a very minor inconvenience at worst.
REPORT ANALYSIS & FINAL THOUGHTS
Ventev’s USB Charging Hub 400 does just exactly as you would expect without any extra unnecessary frills. Charging four devices simultaneously without cluttering up your computer or needing extra charging blocks is definitely a nice convenience we can all consent to. With a moderate asking price of only $40, we can definitely see Ventev’s USB Charging Hub 400 making its way onto many consumers work stations and for this reason we are awarding it our Silver Seal!
