Thermaltake Toughpower 1500W Gold PSU Unboxing & Overview

INSIDE THE UNIT

At first glance we can see some very beefy heat spreaders around the main capacitors and components. Overall the design is very tidy and airflow throughout the unit is unobstructed by any excess wiring, a stark contrast to their previous unit design.

They have also decided to use some Taicon capacitors as well, of which are rated for up to 105C, and utilized some solid capacitors as well.

FINAL THOUGHTS

While just taking a general overview perspective, we can say that the Toughpower 1500W Gold is a nice update to their previous model that was 80 Plus Silver certified. Now with the latest improvements they have been able to achieve 80 Plus Gold. Its features and quality is more than impressive as we looked it over. We liked the look of the PSU and the texture of it does well for the “tough” theme of its namesake.

We are also glad to see that they took a step back and went with the current trend of utilizing flat cables which allow for more flexible routing and better case airflow to keep your components cool. They have also done away with the capacitors at the end of the 24 pin connector, which was quite odd in the first place.

With 10 PCI-E 6+2 pin connectors this PSU should be perfect for those who have extreme setups. Or, if you have the need for storage this PSU has you covered for up to 16 native SATA power plugs.

Thermaltake Toughpower 1500W Gold Angled TopWe are a bit disappointed that the PSU does not have an ON/OFF rocker switch as most PSUs have them and the warranty could be a bit longer, especially for such a high-end unit. Thermaltake offers the same 5-year warranty period on their low-end TR2 line, so it comes as a bit of a surprise that they chose not to offer something longer, or even a lifetime warranty for a model of this price and quality.  But overall, we are quite pleased with the PSU and what is included. If you are in the market to buy a PSU that can deliver this type of power, add this one to your comparison list! With all that power, we can easily award the Thermaltake Toughpower 1500W our Editor’s Choice Award!
