REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS
The Kingston Class 10 UHS-I (U1) SDXC Ultimate 64GB Card strikes at a time when new camera systems are demanding higher capacity, higher performance, and the buyer is hoping for great value. We just assisted with a purchase of 8 DSLR’s that will be used equally for both pictures and video, whereas a few years back, separate purchases of both DSLR and video cameras would have been necessary. The criteria that needed to be met were that the camera must be capable of +20 megapixels photographs, great low light photography, as well as 1080P HD video. This purchase spoke very clearly to SDXC storage.
The Kingston Ultimate has capacity and performance that one would expect of such a card, however, two features really stand out from the rest. This SDXC card has a lifetime warranty and its price is about $1/GB which is very affordable. Availability is right there and Kingston Technology’s reputation and support is beyond reproach. The Kingston Ultimate is a definite recommendation for the enthusiast.
The single thing we did have concern with came in the area of performance where we gained results of 95MB/s read and 50MB/s write while testing in Windows, compared to about 32MB/s read and write when transfer testing in OSX. Remember, we are speaking only to Mac transfer performance here and actual camera operation will still be significantly faster than that of a normal SD card in advanced camera operation. This is not such a concern to the Win user as it is to the Mac. To confirm our results, we did a round of testing, under the exact same criteria, with cards from Lexar, Patriot and Kingston to confirm some anomaly wasn’t present in the machine. It wasn’t.
As good as the card is, our favorite device as of late just has to be the Kingston MobileLite G3 USB 3.0 Card Reader. As small and well built as it is, it most definitely will remain as mainstay in our photo gear, and so should it be yours as well for the extremely low price for such a great tool in the toolbox. We have always been fond of the efforts of Kingston in the Digital world and today is no different. We believe the Kingston Class 10 UHS-I (U1) SDXC Ultimate 64GB Card and Kingston MobileLite G3 Card Reader both worthy of our Top Value Award!
