Nyrius Smart LED Light Bulb and Outlet Review

Today we have the privilege of taking an in-depth look at two home automation products form Nyrius, the Wireless Smart LED Multicolour Light Bulb and their Smart Outlet. Since CES 2015 began, and as we get geared up for CES 2016, we have seen a progression of IoT (Internet of Things) which has brought home automation and connectivity into the fore front of the technology industry. Nyrius’ latest products are an excellent example of this! So let’s dig in!

Nyrius Wireless Smart LED Multicolour Light Bulb

The video above provides an excellent explanation of the Nyrius Smart Light Bulb. To elaborate, the light bulb is powered by your ordinary light bulb socket, which then in turn lets you control the RGB LED within.

Connecting to the light bulb is easy. Simple screw in the light bulb, and install the app on your iOS or Android device. Once installed, open up the app and search for the bulb. Once it pops up on your screen, click the bulb and the rest is up to you.

Firstly, you will notice that this app (for iOS) hasn’t been updated in a long while. So long, that the screen size is still set for the older 3.5″ iPhone display. The first screen shows you the connection and management of various smart bulbs you may have.

Once connected, you have access to four other displays. The first allowing you to turn off and on the bulb, as well as to change colors. The second allowing you to change colors based upon a mood. Easily our favourite, the “Party” option creates a rave-like experience with flashing variants of colors. The next screen taps into your device’s microphone and it changes the lights based upon surroundings noises. The timer screen allows you to set timers and set the light bulb to flash green when a call is coming in.

Featuring bluetooth 4.0, the light bulb has a wireless range of 33 feet. It is a 5 watt LED light bulb that is equivalent to a 40 watt incandescent light bulb. The beam angle is omnidirectional and has a service life of approximately 25,000 hours.

You can control up to eight lightbulbs via this application, making it easy to have control over multiple rooms within your house or apartment. A single bulb will set you back $29.99 according to Nyrius’ website, but on Amazon you can pick one up for $24.99.
