Dog & Bone Wetsuit iPhone 6/6S Case Review

Keeping our wireless devices functional and working properly is one of the most demanding and necessary tasks. Losing your phone’s capabilities is now more than ever to some literally or metaphorically a life and death situation. Keeping your  phone charged as well as guarded from the elements are the two key factors in this. In an earlier review we took a look at a wireless charging case from Dog & Bone, The Backbone. Today we will be looking at the Wetsuit.

PACKAGING & CONTENTS

The Wetsuit comes in a box ready for retail. By this we mean it’s appealing to the eye really grasps your attention. WETSUIT centered at the top tells you the product name and a catchy water line half way up divides the red and white portions of the box. The plastic window below the water line shows you the bottom half of the case and if you didn’t know anything about the case before you looked at it, well you’ll get the hint it may be waterproof from the graphics.

Flipping the box to the backside you’ll see some of their stand out features. Number 1 obviously being the waterproof and shock proof up to 6.6 Feet. Snow proof and dirt proof are also listed but when you are talking water proof those features being mentioned just seem to be space takers. Mention of the direct touch screen as well at the bottom you’ll see the IP68 and MIL STD 810G Stamps.

Opening the box and pulling out the contents you’ll see the back of the wetsuit as well as the included headphone adapter you’ll need to use to attach wired headphones. Also included are a setup guide, a spacer for using a iPhone 6 opposed to 6S as the 6S is slightly thicker and a screen wipe.

FEATURES & PREFORMANCE

As we always have with our Lifeproof cases, The Wetsuit instructions tell you to test it out before you put your phone in. With step by step instructions which are detailed enough that you shouldn’t mess it up. We submerged the case with the test block in and it works perfectly fine. Dog and Bone Wetsuit

Next, we put the phone in, a very snug fit and a confident sounding click as we finalize the closing of the case. The Wetsuit is labeled as IP68 which is as good as it gets for dust and water protection. Compliant MIL STD 810G shows that the case exceeds Military shock standards as well.

Ip Rating ChartThe case performs its duties of keeping the phone dry and dust free perfectly. However, when it comes to accessing the control center (when you swipe up from the bottom of the screen),  it is very hard to do and you really have to put an effort into accessing this menu. It is great that it comes with an adapter to use wired headphones but this adapter should continue the water proof seal and in this case it doesn’t. If you decide to play audio from the device the sound from the speakers is severely muffled as well by the case and would impede not only music but any speakerphone calls.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall we are little let down by the functionality of the Wetsuit, It does it’s job in keeping out water and dust and those are the main focus of the case and they concur those with ease. For a $80 case we would expect it to be a little more functional. However we were able to find them as low as $40 on Amazon. Not being able to maintain the waterproof seal with headphones plugged in seems like a major issue that could have been easily fixed. As well the sound should travel through from the speakers and allow a little more volume. If you don’t plan on using wired headphones or the speakers much, this case is perfect as it really does keep the overall size of the phone very thin and is a very nice looking case. The Wetsuit will have our Bronze Seal to add to it’s outstanding IP68 rating and MIL STD.

Par for the Course!

Wetsuit is a decent case that takes a major issue with phones and fixes it, waterproofing. Small issues were overlooked but overall not a bad buy!
