Alright, getting down to what matters, the inner workings of this energy monitor. When you initially set up the app, you will be greeted by an extremely easy pairing process. It really is as simple as point your iOS’ camera at the Apple HomeKit code on the side of the device, the app takes care of the rest.

Once set up, you have to give it some information as to what you want to call the Eve Energy, as well as what room you are keeping it in.

The rest of the app speaks for itself, you can see how many watts the Eve Energy is using, it’s current usage in kilowatt hours, as well as see it’s current power state (i.e., on or off). Take a look at some of our data below, the first set of measurements shows an older gaming PC plugged in on standby while the second set shows our test bench pc while on standby and while idling.

As this device is compatible with Apple HomeKit, you can reap the benefits of Siri. We have to say, being able to yell at Siri to actually do more than Google the score of the baseball game is refreshing. Siri can turn on and off the device, and all you have to do is say “Turn off the computer in the office”. It is unbelievably simple!

As a side note, Elgato has a flurry of other smart home devices that can make you look like you have the home of the future. There are all of these options as well:

  • Eve Room – Monitor the room’s air quality, temperature and humidity
  • Eve Weather – See exterior temperatures, air pressure and humidity
  • Eve Door and Window – See what doors are open/closed and when
  • Eve Thermo – An attachment for your radiator valve

While we can’t speak to the quality of these devices as we have not personally tested them, these would be easy upgrades to any home if you were looking to have more control or make your home smarter.
