REPORT ANALYSIS & FINAL THOUGHTS
We have to say that when we received the Gigabyte X99-SLI we were not expecting much from a $250 X99 board in the way of performance. After extensively testing this motherboard we were quite surprised at how well it handled an Intel Core I7-5960X at 4.5GHz. This goes to show that Gigabyte has lived up to their reputation as one of the leading motherboard manufacturers, even on their value-oriented motherboards. They have packed a lot of features in to this motherboard including a rather powerful 6-phase VRM design due to quality IR components, server grade chokes and Gigabyte’s Durable Black solid Japanese capacitors made by Nichicon. We have also seen X99 motherboards in this price range or lower that come with only four RAM slots therefore an added bonus is having eight RAM slots supporting up to 128GB of memory.
Lacking on the motherboard are built in power and reset buttons as well as a LED debug display, then again for a motherboard of this price range that is to be expected. Some enthusiast maybe turned off by this, but for value we can say the Gigabyte X99-SLI packs a punch and makes up in performance and other features such as audio controller with a built-in amplifier as just one example. Also we were a bit disappointed that the motherboard only came with 2 x SATA cables as we were expecting at least four although this is just being picky. The Gigabyte X99-SLI is perfect for any enthusiasts or gamer wanting the power of X99 six or eight core CPU’s to help drive up to four graphics cards without spending a fortune on a high end motherboard.
It for these reasons we feel we must award the Gigabyte X99-SLI with our Technology X award for Top Value!
