XFX XTR 1050W Gold Rated Power Supply – Unboxing and Overview

As a company that sells graphics cards, XFX has a lot at stake when they put their name on a power supply. We have high expectations for the unit we’ve got today, the XFX XTR 1050W. After our reviews on the XFX R9 290 and the XFX R9 280 we wanted to take a look at the rebranding they have on their power supplies.

The aforementioned PSU is based on a Seasonic unit like all of their other power supplies, which if you don’t already know Seasonic is the Rolls Royce of power supplies; rugged, long lasting and reliable are all words that come to mind  with their past units.

FEATURES

Going over some of the features we have EasyRail Plus, which simply means a single 12V Rail providing all of the amperage rather than multiple rails dividing the amperage. In laymen’s terms EasyRail means you don’t have to worry which cables are connected to which rail and just plug the cables into your system.

We also have SolidLink which touts less wires and less heat output, put simply it has a more efficient design and less wasted energy that eventually turns into heat.

The Total Thermal Solution is an XFX Exclusive with Hybrid Fan Mode, Ultra Quiet Fluid Dynamic Bearing Fans and Autosensing Dynamic Fan Control. Hybrid Mode keeps the fans off on the PSU until 25% load or 25C whichever comes first. A Fluid dynamic fan bearing lowers noise and lasts longer.

For those looking to use their system at full load, such as Bitcoin miners and distributed computing programs like Folding @ Home or other BOINC applications will find gold plated high current terminals. The high current terminals use copper alloy which has a higher standard than copper-zinc lead alloy, these under very heavy loads will overheat. This should reduce the potential damage to your system in cases of surges as well.

Finally we have Ultra Voltage Regulation which for overclockers allows less variation in voltage. XFX says the variation stays between +2% and 0% on the 12V Rail and 1% to -1% on the 3.3V and +5V outputs which from a Seasonic built PSU is to be expected!

PACKAGING AND ACCESSORIES

The XTR is packaged similarly to XFX’s GPUs with an outer printed carton and thick cardboard inside it providing a Matryoshka doll like experience.

On the back we see XFX standing by its wattage, this being a Seasonic unit we expect our XFX XTR 1050 to stay at its rated wattage and efficiency under all, but the most extreme circumstances. They also explain its fully modular design, hybrid fan mode as well as sporting 8 PCI-E 6+2 Pin Connectors, which allows quad graphics support for those looking to go all out.

We have on the top of the box an explanation of the features we went over previously and another hero shot of the PSU. Finally on the sides we see XFX’s 5 year warranty being shown
